On Wednesday 9 July 2014, Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band performed at the Sandia Casino Amphitheater in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was the 23rd show of the 12th All-Starr Band's 46-date North American tour, which ran from June to October 2014. Starr had previously performed at the Sandia Casino Amphitheater on 25 August 2003 and 2 July 2006.

The 12th All-Starr Band was one of the most musically distinguished lineups in the band's history. Steve Lukather was the guitarist and co-founder of Toto, whose 'Rosanna' and 'Africa' had been two of the defining rock records of the early 1980s, and one of the most recorded session guitarists in Los Angeles history. Gregg Rolie had been the original keyboard player and vocalist of both Santana – playing on 'Evil Ways', 'Black Magic Woman', and 'Oye Cómo Va' – and Journey. Todd Rundgren was one of rock's most idiosyncratic figures: a singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose 'I Saw The Light', 'Bang The Drum All Day', and 'Love Is The Answer' spanned three decades of American rock. Richard Page returned from the 2010 and 2011 lineups. Mark Rivera and Gregg Bissonette were All-Starr Band veterans.

Gregg Rolie's three featured songs – 'Evil Ways', 'Black Magic Woman'/'Gypsy Queen', and 'Oye Cómo Va' – gave the Albuquerque audience a mini-Santana set within the All-Starr show. All three were from the original Santana lineup's early 1970s peak, with Rolie on lead vocals and organ. Steve Lukather's showcase ran from the polished pop-rock of 'Rosanna' through the anthemic 'Africa' to the hard-driving 'Hold The Line' – three of Toto's most enduring tracks. Todd Rundgren's three songs spanned his career from the early 1970s ('I Saw The Light', 1973) through the arena-rock novelty of 'Bang The Drum All Day' (1983) to the more reflective 'Love Is The Answer'.
'Don't Pass Me By' – Ringo's own composition, the first song he had written alone to appear on a Beatles album (The White Album, 1968) – was a welcome inclusion. 'Anthem' and 'Wings' were from Ringo's more recent solo catalogue.
