  • 🎸 The Beatles live: Cavern Club, Liverpool (evening) – 14 July 1961
    The Beatles’ 16th Cavern appearance and their second evening show at the venue. Supported by the White Eagle Jazz Band and Ian And The Zodiacs. Ian Edwards recalled Paul McCartney’s performance of ‘Besame Mucho’: “You can’t really imagine a beat group doing Besame Mucho, but they did it very well.”

1962

  • 🎸 The Beatles live: Regent Dansette, Rhyl – 14 July 1962
    The Beatles’ first-ever performance in Wales, at the Regent Dansette Ballroom in Rhyl. Admission was five shillings; the group were paid £4. The stage was made from wooden boards laid over billiard tables. Supported by local group The Strangers.

1964

  • 📻 Radio: Top Gear – 14 July 1964
    The Beatles recorded seven songs for the first edition of BBC Radio’s Top Gear at Broadcasting House, including the only performance of ‘And I Love Her’ outside EMI Studios. George Martin failed to appear for the piano solo on ‘A Hard Day’s Night’; the studio recording was edited in instead.

1971

  • ✈️ Travel: John Lennon – New York City to London – 14 July 1971
    John Lennon and Yoko Ono returned to London after six weeks in the US, during which they performed with Frank Zappa at the Fillmore East and attended custody hearings for Ono’s daughter Kyoko. They returned to promote the reissue of Ono’s book Grapefruit.

1974

  • 🎹 Recording: Beef Jerky by John Lennon – 14 July 1974
    The first recording session for John Lennon’s Walls and Bridges album at the Record Plant, New York. The session began with rehearsals of ‘Move Over Ms L’, ‘Bless You’, ‘Whatever Gets You Thru The Night’, and ‘What You Got’, before moving into the first take of ‘Beef Jerky’.
