The All-Starr Band Format

The All-Starr Band concept — which Ringo had launched in 1989 — was built around a simple but effective idea: assemble a rotating cast of rock and pop stars, each of whom performs their own hits as well as backing Ringo on his. The result is a touring revue that gives audiences a greatest-hits experience from multiple artists in a single show.

The 1992 lineup was particularly strong. Joe Walsh brought his Eagles and James Gang catalogue; Todd Rundgren his art-rock and pop hits; Dave Edmunds his rockabilly-inflected British rock; Timothy B Schmit his Eagles harmonies; Burton Cummings the Guess Who’s Canadian rock anthems; and Nils Lofgren his E Street Band-honed guitar work. Tim Cappello, known for his appearance in the film The Lost Boys (1987), added saxophone and showmanship.
