March 1962 saw The Beatles performing multiple shows at the Cavern Club, including their 92nd lunchtime show and 58th evening show on 9 March alone. These performances helped establish their reputation in Liverpool before their breakthrough.

Beatlemania Tours (1963)

In March 1963, The Beatles began their second UK tour, opening at the Granada Cinema in East Ham, London on 9 March. Despite being billed below Chris Montez and Tommy Roe, audience reaction made it clear The Beatles were the main attraction.

Film Work (1964–1965)

March was crucial for Beatles film production, with train scenes for A Hard Day’s Night filmed in 1964 and the final day of Help! location filming in the Bahamas completed on 9 March 1965.

The Butcher Cover Photo Session (1966)

On 25 March 1966, The Beatles took part in one of the most controversial photo sessions of their career at a studio in Chelsea, London. Photographed by Robert Whitaker, the resulting ‘butcher cover’ images were conceived as a surrealist statement about fame and identity, and later caused a major scandal when used on the US album Yesterday... And Today.

Sgt Pepper Sessions (1967)
