John Lennon later described feeling like extras in their own movie, and Paul McCartney has noted that the band were frequently stoned during filming, which gave the production a somewhat detached quality. The Help! Album
The Help! album was released on 6 August 1965 — one week after the première. It reached number one in the UK and remained there for nine weeks. The album is notable for containing ‘Yesterday’ — Paul McCartney’s solo acoustic ballad, recorded with a string quartet and credited to Lennon–McCartney, which would go on to become one of the most covered songs in history.
The Dorchester Party
The post-première party at the Orchid Room of the Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane was a suitably grand conclusion to the evening. The Dorchester was — and remains — one of London’s most prestigious hotels, and the Orchid Room was its principal private dining and events space.
