Wings Over Europe Tour Mixing Sessions – 16 April 1973 EMI Studios

Mixing: Wings Over Europe Tour Recordings

Monday 16 April 1973 | Paul McCartney, Studio, Wings

The first of three consecutive days dedicated to mixing Wings live recordings took place on 16 April 1973 in Control Room Four at EMI Studios, London.

The material had been recorded during Wings' European tour between 19–24 August 1972. Paul McCartney had initially considered using some of the performances for Red Rose Speedway, before shifting direction toward a proposed film project titled The Bruce McMouse Show, which would combine live performance footage with animated sequences featuring a fictional family of mice living beneath the stage.

On this first mixing day, stereo mixes were prepared for 'Intro', 'Eat At Home', and 'Bip Bop' (recorded in The Hague on 21 August 1972), along with 'The Mess' (recorded in West Berlin on 24 August 1972).

An additional mix was created from a guitar solo section of 'The Mess', sourced from the Amsterdam performance on 20 August 1972, which was later integrated into the Berlin recording.
