The Beatles performed at the Majestic Ballroom on High Street, Crewe, Cheshire on 13 August 1962 — the first of their only two appearances in the town. They returned to the same venue a week later on 20 August 1962. These were the group’s only dates in Crewe.
The beat nights at the Majestic were billed as “The biggest rock since Blackpool Rock.”

The building on High Street, Crewe was originally constructed as a cinema, opening in 1933. It was converted and reopened as the Majestic Ballroom in 1961, owned by the Top Rank organisation — one of the major promoters of live music and dancing in Britain during the early 1960s.
The venue became a bingo hall in 1965, with three cinema screens later added to the building. In 2007 it was converted into the M Club, but the lease was subsequently acquired by Sainsbury’s supermarket and the club closed in 2010.
The Majestic Ballroom’s brief life as a live music venue — from 1961 to 1965 — coincided almost exactly with the peak years of the Merseybeat boom, during which The Beatles and dozens of other groups toured the ballroom circuit across the north of England.
