The All-Starr tour moves through Texas
The autumn itinerary began with eight performances at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, between 13 and 28 October. The travelling section then took the group to El Paso on 30 October and Austin on 31 October, followed by Sugar Land and Irving.
Our accounts of the 24 October, 27 October and 28 October Las Vegas concerts cover the closing part of that residency. Irving was the fourth Texas stop before the band crossed into Oklahoma for the following night’s performance.
Ringo’s March announcement had described the route from Las Vegas through the southern states and onward to Florida, Georgia, Virginia, New Jersey and New York, with further dates to be added. The completed itinerary included Irving and Clearwater and ended in Newark on 16 November.
The seven-piece 2017 All-Starr Band
| Musician | Roles and featured repertoire |
|---|---|
| Ringo Starr | Vocals, drums and percussion; Beatles and solo songs |
| Steve Lukather | Guitar and vocals; Toto songs |
| Todd Rundgren | Guitar, vocals and percussion; solo and Utopia songs |
| Gregg Rolie | Organ, keyboards and vocals; Santana repertoire |
| Richard Page | Bass and vocals; Mr. Mister and solo songs |
| Warren Ham | Vocals, saxophone, harmonica, flute, percussion and keyboards |
| Gregg Bissonette | Drums and vocals |
The official 2017 announcement names these six All-Starrs alongside Ringo. Warren Ham handled the wind instruments and additional percussion; Mark Rivera belonged to an earlier version of this broader All-Starr era, not this seven-piece touring line-up.
The shared lead vocals remained central to the format. Rundgren, Rolie, Lukather and Page each led selections from their own careers, while Ham and Bissonette supported the changing arrangements alongside Ringo and the other musicians.

Ringo’s Beatles and solo songs
“Matchbox” opened the evening with the Carl Perkins song Ringo had sung with the Beatles. “It Don’t Come Easy” followed before “What Goes On”, his lead-vocal contribution to Rubber Soul.
Later came “Boys”, “Don’t Pass Me By” and “Yellow Submarine”, drawing on different stages of his Beatles recording career. “Don’t Pass Me By” was Ringo’s own composition from the White Album; “Yellow Submarine” had appeared on Revolver before becoming the title of the animated Beatles film.
“You’re Sixteen”, “Back Off Boogaloo” and “Photograph” brought his solo successes into the programme. “Act Naturally” returned to a Beatles-era cover, followed by “With A Little Help From My Friends” and the closing “Give Peace A Chance” refrain.

The All-Starrs’ featured songs
Lukather led “Rosanna”, “Africa” and “Hold The Line”. Rolie sang “Evil Ways”, “Black Magic Woman”, the accompanying “Gypsy Queen” passage and “Oye Cómo Va”, bringing the Santana repertoire into the shared programme.
Page’s selections were “Kyrie”, “You Are Mine” and “Broken Wings”. The two Mr. Mister hits sat alongside his solo song, rather than limiting his part of the concert to the band’s best-known recordings.
Rundgren led “I Saw The Light”, “Bang The Drum All Day” and “Love Is The Answer”. The alternation between singers allowed each performer to take a lead role and then return to supporting the next song.
Give More Love and the 2017 touring year
Ringo’s nineteenth solo album, Give More Love, had been released on 15 September 2017. Recorded at his home studio in Los Angeles, it included contributions from Paul McCartney and several musicians connected with the All-Starr Band.
McCartney appeared on “We’re On The Road Again” and “Show Me The Way”. Steve Lukather, Richard Page and Gregg Bissonette were also among the album’s contributors. The release linked Ringo’s new studio work with the musical circle represented on the autumn tour.
Bonus recordings included new versions of “Back Off Boogaloo”, “Don’t Pass Me By” and “Photograph”, all song titles present in the Irving programme. The concert’s setlist remained a mixture of established Ringo material and the All-Starrs’ featured songs; the album title track was not part of the sequence above.
