Beatles songs and solo favourites
The Beatles selections represented several stages of Starr’s recording career. “Boys” came from the group’s first album, while “I Wanna Be Your Man” appeared on their second. “What Goes On”, “Yellow Submarine” and “With a Little Help from My Friends” followed later in the decade.
“Don’t Pass Me By”, Starr’s first solo songwriting credit on a Beatles album, joined those performances. “Matchbox” and “Act Naturally” brought two of his familiar country and rock-and-roll vocal numbers into the set.
The solo selections included “It Don’t Come Easy”, “Back Off Boogaloo”, “You’re Sixteen” and “Photograph”. The closing “With a Little Help from My Friends” led into the chorus of “Give Peace a Chance”.
