Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band live: Beau Rivage Theatre, Biloxi — 5 July 2008

On Saturday 5 July 2008, Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band performed at the Beau Rivage Theatre in Biloxi, Mississippi, USA. It was the 11th show by the tenth All-Starr Band, whose North American tour ran for 29 dates between June and August 2008. Starr returned to the Beau Rivage Theatre on 18 July 2010.

The tenth All-Starr Band

The 2008 lineup brought together a diverse group of rock and pop veterans:

  • Ringo Starr — vocals, drums, percussion
  • Billy Squier — vocals, guitar, bass guitar
  • Colin Hay — vocals, guitar
  • Hamish Stuart — vocals, bass guitar, guitar
  • Gary Wright — vocals, keyboards
  • Edgar Winter — vocals, keyboards, saxophone
  • Gregg Bissonette — vocals, drums

Edgar Winter — born in Beaumont, Texas on 28 December 1946 — was one of American rock's most versatile multi-instrumentalists. His 1973 instrumental 'Frankenstein' — performed in the All-Starr setlist — reached number one in the US and became one of the defining rock tracks of the decade. His brother Johnny Winter was one of the most celebrated blues guitarists of his generation. Edgar Winter also had a direct Beatles connection: he played saxophone on John Lennon's 'Whatever Gets You Thru The Night' (1974), which became Lennon's only US number one solo single.

Colin Hay — born in Saltcoats, Scotland on 29 June 1953 — was the vocalist and co-founder of Men at Work, the Australian new wave group whose debut album Business as Usual (1981) reached number one in the US, UK, and Australia simultaneously. 'Down Under' and 'Who Can It Be Now?' both featured in the All-Starr setlist. Hay had relocated to Australia as a child and became one of the most distinctive voices in 1980s pop.

Hamish Stuart — born in Glasgow, Scotland on 8 October 1949 — was the guitarist, bassist, and vocalist of the Average White Band, the Scottish funk group whose 1974 instrumental 'Pick Up The Pieces' reached number one in the US. Stuart later became a member of Paul McCartney's touring band, playing on the Flowers in the Dirt world tour (1989–90) and the Off the Ground tour (1993). His connection to both Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney made him one of the most Beatles-adjacent musicians in the All-Starr lineup.

Gary Wright — born in Cresskill, New Jersey on 26 April 1943 — was best known for his 1975 hit 'Dream Weaver', which reached number two in the US. He had a long personal and professional relationship with George Harrison, having first met him in 1970. Wright played keyboards on several Harrison solo albums and was a close friend until Harrison's death in 2001. He died on 4 September 2023.

Billy Squier — born in Wellesley, Massachusetts on 12 May 1950 — was one of the most commercially successful American hard rock artists of the early 1980s, with hits including 'The Stroke' and 'Lonely Is The Night'. Gregg Bissonette was a highly regarded session drummer who had worked with David Lee Roth, Joe Satriani, and many others.
