Wednesday 27 October 1993 | Live concert | Palau Sant Jordi, Barcelona, Spain
Paul McCartney performed at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona on 27 October 1993, returning for the second of two consecutive nights. The concert was the 64th in the 77-date New World Tour itinerary and brought the autumn European leg to a close.
The day combined a ten-song soundcheck with a full concert built around Off the Ground, Beatles classics, Wings favourites and other solo material. After Barcelona, the band’s next tour concerts would take place in Japan in November, followed by dates in Mexico and South America.

Barcelona closes the autumn European leg
The New World Tour began in Milan in February and had already travelled through Australia, New Zealand and North America before its autumn European concerts. Barcelona followed the Florence shows of 22 and 23 October.
The first Palau Sant Jordi concert, on 26 October, opened the two-night engagement. The second night completed that stop and the European run, with the next tour performance scheduled for Tokyo Dome on 12 November.
For another stage of the same tour, explore the Charlotte concert on 15 June. The itinerary below connects Barcelona with the complete year’s concert schedule.
The six-piece New World Tour band
The lineup retained the core of McCartney’s previous world-tour band, with Blair Cunningham now on drums and percussion. Instrumental exchanges, keyboards and backing vocals allowed the group to move between rock arrangements and quieter passages.
| Musician | Role |
|---|---|
| Paul McCartney | Lead vocals, bass guitar, guitar and keyboards |
| Linda McCartney | Keyboards, vocals and percussion |
| Hamish Stuart | Guitar, bass guitar and vocals |
| Robbie McIntosh | Guitar and vocals |
| Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens | Keyboards and vocals |
| Blair Cunningham | Drums and percussion |
Robbie’s Bit gave McIntosh an instrumental spotlight, while Ain’t No Sunshine provided another change of pace within the concert sequence. Together with I Lost My Little Girl and the acoustic material around it, this section contrasted with the larger rock arrangements elsewhere in the show.
Soundcheck setlist
The ten-song soundcheck ranged from early rock ’n’ roll to All My Trials and Tres Conejos:
- Crackin’ Up
- Tres Conejos
- Matchbox
- Just Because
- Singing the Blues
- Midnight Special
- All My Trials
- Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying
- Ain’t That a Shame
- Twenty Flight Rock
All My Trials also connects with McCartney’s Milan concert exactly four years earlier, when the performance later released on Tripping the Live Fantastic – Highlights! was recorded. Here it belonged to the Barcelona soundcheck, rather than the evening’s concert set.
Off the Ground alongside Beatles and Wings favourites
Drive My Car opened the concert, followed by Coming Up and the current album’s Looking for Changes. Other Off the Ground songs were distributed through the show: Peace in the Neighbourhood, the title track, Hope of Deliverance, Biker Like an Icon and C’Mon People.
The Beatles selections extended from All My Loving and Can’t Buy Me Love to Paperback Writer, Penny Lane and Here, There and Everywhere. Wings songs included Jet, Let Me Roll It, My Love, Live and Let Die and Band on the Run.
The closing sequence brought Band on the Run, I Saw Her Standing There and Hey Jude together, ending the European leg with songs drawn from different stages of McCartney’s career.
