Paul McCartney live: Alamodome, San Antonio – 29 May 1993
Saturday 29 May 1993 | Live, Paul McCartney
Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas, USA
On Saturday 29 May 1993, Paul McCartney performed at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas — the 29th night of the New World Tour, which ran for 77 dates across 19 countries between February and December 1993. The show was seen by 46,716 fans and was the christening concert for the newly-built Alamodome. All tickets sold out within two hours. The performance of My Love from this show appears on the 1993 live album Paul Is Live. McCartney returned to the Alamodome on 25 October 2025 during the Got Back Tour.
The Christening of the Alamodome
McCartney’s publicist Geoff Baker captured the atmosphere of the night in Club Sandwich, Summer 1993:
“San Antonio – The newly-built Alamodome is christened by Paul and Band performing to 47,000 fans. All tickets for this show are sold out within two hours. Paul is presented with the keys to the city by Mayor Nelson Wolfe and during the show the band is entertained by the sight of a buxom young lady in the third row who climbs on her boyfriend’s shoulders, strips to her bra and then hurls the bra onto the stage as she jiggles to the songs, giving a new meaning to the ‘Hey Jude’ line ‘the movement you need is on your shoulder’.”
— Geoff Baker, publicist, Club Sandwich, Summer 1993
McCartney was also presented with the keys to the city of San Antonio by Mayor Nelson Wolfe.
