Paul McCartney Live at the National Car Rental Center, Sunrise – 17 May 2002
Friday 17 May 2002 | Live, Paul McCartney
National Car Rental Center, Sunrise, Florida, USA
On 17 May 2002, Paul McCartney performed at the National Car Rental Center in Sunrise, Florida — the 26th date of the Driving World Tour and the first of two consecutive nights at the venue. Performances of 'Lonely Road' and 'I Saw Her Standing There' from this show were included on the 2002 live albums Back In The US and Back In The World.
The Driving World Tour
The Driving World Tour ran from 1 April to 18 November 2002, covering 58 dates across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Japan. It was McCartney's first major world tour since the New World Tour of 1993, and supported his album Driving Rain (2001). The tour was notable for its extensive setlist — 37 songs at the Sunrise show — and for the quality of McCartney's band, which had been assembled for the Driving Rain sessions and would remain with him for many years.
The North American leg had opened on 1 April 2002 in Oakland and was nearing its end by 17 May, with the Sunrise shows among the final dates before a break until September. The tour resumed in the autumn for a second North American run before concluding in Japan in November.
The Band
- Paul 'Wix' Wickens — vocals, keyboards, guitar, percussion, harmonica (Wings touring member from 1989)
- Brian Ray — vocals, guitar, bass
- Rusty Anderson — vocals, guitar
- Abe Laboriel Jr — vocals, drums
The band had been assembled for the Driving Rain album sessions in 2001 and would go on to become McCartney's longest-serving live band, touring with him for over two decades.
Recorded for Back In The US and Back In The World
The Driving World Tour was recorded for two live albums released simultaneously in November 2002: Back In The US (for the American market) and Back In The World (for the rest of the world). Both albums drew from multiple shows across the tour. The Sunrise performance of 17 May contributed two tracks: 'Lonely Road' and 'I Saw Her Standing There' — making this one of the documented nights of the tour.

The 37-song set was one of the longest of any McCartney tour, spanning his entire career from The Beatles through Wings to his solo work:
