The preceding shows were at Madrid’s Palacio de los Deportes on 2 November and 3 November. After Lyon, the band headed to Rotterdam for concerts on 7, 8, 10 and 11 November, then crossed the Atlantic for the first North American leg.

Flowers in the Dirt on the road

“Figure of Eight”, “Rough Ride”, “We Got Married”, “Put It There”, “This One” and “My Brave Face” represented Flowers in the Dirt. The new material appeared throughout the running order rather than in a single album sequence.

“Figure of Eight” led directly into the Wings hit “Jet”, with “Rough Ride” following. “This One” and “My Brave Face” appeared together later in the programme, before “Back in the USSR” and “I Saw Her Standing There”.

Beatles songs, Wings hits and rock ’n’ roll

The Beatles material ranged from early songs such as “I Saw Her Standing There” and “Can’t Buy Me Love” to “Eleanor Rigby”, “The Fool on the Hill” and “Let It Be”. “Put It There” was followed by the “Hello, Goodbye” coda before “Things We Said Today”.

Wings selections included “Jet”, “Band on the Run” and “Live and Let Die”. “Maybe I’m Amazed”, “Ebony and Ivory” and “Coming Up” drew from McCartney’s wider solo catalogue. The show also included “Twenty Flight Rock” and “Ain’t That a Shame”.

Following “Hey Jude”, the closing stretch moved through “Yesterday” and “Get Back” before the three-song sequence from Abbey Road: “Golden Slumbers”, “Carry That Weight” and “The End”.

The tour and Tripping the Live Fantastic

The World Tour continued through North America, Britain, Japan and Brazil before its final run of summer stadium shows in 1990. It ended at Soldier Field in Chicago on 29 July.

Recordings from the tour formed Tripping the Live Fantastic, released on 5 November 1990, exactly one year after the Lyon concert. The official album account identifies the same touring band and describes a programme combining concert performances with soundcheck recordings.

The tour’s later dates included Rio de Janeiro on 20 April 1990 and Cleveland on 20 July.
