The Beatles live: St John's Hall, Liverpool

The Beatles performed at St John's Hall on Snaefell Avenue in Tuebrook, Liverpool — their sixth of 11 appearances at the venue, organised by Mona Best. The line-up was John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Pete Best.

3 August 1962

The Beatles live: Grafton Rooms, Liverpool

The Beatles made their first appearance at the Grafton Rooms on West Derby Road, topping a bill that also featured Gerry And The Pacemakers and The Big Three. Promoted by Albert Kinder, the show took place just days after Ringo Starr had replaced Pete Best on drums. The group were paid £10 — the same as every other act on the bill.

Pattie Harrison reads about Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

The Times newspaper carried an advertisement for Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Spiritual Regeneration Movement Foundation. Pattie Harrison — wife of George Harrison — saw the advert and made arrangements to attend an introductory lecture at Caxton Hall, London. The encounter set in motion a chain of events that led all four Beatles to meet Maharishi on 24 August 1967.

George Harrison and Ravi Shankar hold a press conference

On the third day of their US trip, George Harrison, Neil Aspinall and Alexis ‘Magic Alex’ Mardas returned to Ravi Shankar's Kinnara School of Music in Los Angeles. Harrison and Shankar held a press conference to promote Shankar's Hollywood Bowl concert the following day. That evening, the Harrisons and Derek Taylor attended a Mamas And The Papas recording session.

Interview: John Lennon and Yoko Ono for Record Mirror

John Lennon and Yoko Ono were interviewed by Mike Hennessey of Record Mirror at Tittenhurst Park in Ascot, Berkshire. The interview took place on the couple's bed. Lennon went through a list of Beatles songs and discussed who wrote each one. Photographer Tony Hanley documented the session in and around the estate.

Recording: You Are Here, Meat City, Only People by John Lennon

The third recording session for John Lennon's fourth solo album Mind Games took place at the Record Plant in New York City. Three songs were recorded: You Are Here (completed in six takes, with take 4 later appearing as a hidden track on the 2024 deluxe reissue), Meat City, and Only People. Musicians included David Spinozza, Ken Ascher, Gordon Edwards and Jim Keltner.

Recording: Girls School, Famous Groupies by Wings

Following a two-month break, Wings resumed sessions for London Town at the newly converted Spirit of Ranachan Studio on the McCartneys' Low Ranachan Farm in Campbeltown, Scotland. Overdubs were recorded for Girls School — later released as the B-side to Mull of Kintyre — and Famous Groupies, with Jimmy McCulloch adding lead and slide guitar and Denny Laine recording acoustic guitar during the choruses.

Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band live: Harveys Outdoor Amphitheater, Stateline

The second All-Starr Band performed the 39th show of their 62-date North American and European tour at the Harveys Outdoor Amphitheater in Stateline, Nevada. The line-up included Joe Walsh, Nils Lofgren, Todd Rundgren, Dave Edmunds, Timothy B Schmit, Burton Cummings, Tim Cappello and Zak Starkey.

Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band live: Orlando Arena, Orlando

The third All-Starr Band performed the 35th show of their 50-date Japan and North America tour at the Orlando Arena in Florida. The celebrated 1995 line-up included Randy Bachman, Mark Farner, Billy Preston, Felix Cavaliere, John Entwistle, Mark Rivera and Zak Starkey.

UK album release: Vertical Man by Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr's eleventh solo studio album Vertical Man — produced by Mark Hudson and featuring guest appearances by Paul McCartney and George Harrison — was released in the United Kingdom. The album peaked at number 85 on the UK albums chart, having previously reached number 61 on the US Billboard 200 on its American release on 16 June 1998.

Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band live: PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel

The eighth All-Starr Band performed the ninth show of their 35-date North American tour at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. The 2003 line-up featured Colin Hay, Paul Carrack, John Waite, Mark Rivera and Sheila E. Ringo Starr had performed at the Holmdel venue on multiple occasions since 1989.

Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band live: Mountain Winery, Saratoga

The 11th All-Starr Band performed the 28th show of their 31-date North American tour at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, California. The 2010 line-up featured Wally Palmar, Rick Derringer, Edgar Winter, Gary Wright, Richard Page and Gregg Bissonette. Ringo Starr had previously performed at the Mountain Winery in June 2000 and July 2008.

The 14th All-Starr Band performed the 14th show of their 34-date Asia and North America tour at the Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, Illinois — the first of two consecutive nights at the venue. The 2019 line-up featured Steve Lukather, Colin Hay, Gregg Rolie, Hamish Stuart, Warren Ham and Gregg Bissonette.
