Aintree Institute
Aintree Institute was one of the most popular jive clubs in Liverpool in the early 1960s, situated on Longmoor Lane in Aintree behind the Black Bull club, close to the famous racecourse where the annual Grand National horse race takes place. Like many of the dance halls and social clubs that formed the backbone of the Merseybeat circuit, it provided a regular stage for the local groups who were transforming British popular music.
The venue was demolished in 2007, but during its heyday it was a key stop on the circuit that Brian Kelly's Beekay Promotions ran across north Liverpool. Kelly was one of the most active promoters of the early Beatles years, booking the group repeatedly at Aintree and other venues across the city.
