Friday 1 May 1964 | Radio

On 1 May 1964, The Beatles recorded the third edition of their BBC radio programme From Us To You at the BBC Paris Studio in London. The session took place between 6:30pm and 9:30pm.

The From Us To You series formed part of The Beatles’ ongoing relationship with BBC radio during the height of Beatlemania, offering fans exclusive performances and informal studio moments.

Recording session

During the session, The Beatles recorded eight songs for broadcast:

  • I Saw Her Standing There
  • Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!
  • I Forgot To Remember To Forget
  • You Can’t Do That
  • Sure To Fall (In Love With You)
  • Can’t Buy Me Love

  • Honey Don’t

Notably, Honey Don’t featured a lead vocal by John Lennon, in contrast to the later EMI studio version recorded in 1964, which was sung by Ringo Starr.

Additional performances

The group also recorded two versions of Whit Monday To You, a spontaneous composition performed to the melody of Happy Birthday To You, showcasing their informal humour and rapport during BBC sessions.
