Beatles Songs by Year (1962–1970)

Beatles Songs by Year (1962–1970)

The Beatles recorded and released music at an extraordinary pace between 1962 and 1970, producing one of the most influential catalogues in popular music history. This guide contains 213 catalogue entries, including album tracks, standalone singles, B-sides, the two German-language recordings and the separately listed Sgt. Pepper reprise. George Martin was central to the band’s studio work; the Let It Be album was completed by Phil Spector.

This guide lists every Beatles song by year of release, showing how the band's music evolved from early Merseybeat rock and roll into psychedelic experimentation and sophisticated studio production. For the full chronological story, see the Complete Beatles Timeline or the Beatles Knowledge Hub.

How this list is counted

Each title is listed once, by the year of its first commercial record release, rather than its recording date. The two German-language recordings and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) are separate entries; Kansas City / Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey is one medley entry. Alternate mixes and later album versions are not counted again. This is a guide to the core 1962–1970 catalogue, not every BBC performance, outtake or archival recording released later.

For example, Get Back is counted in 1969, although another version appears on Let It Be in 1970. Across The Universe is also counted in 1969, when it first appeared on the charity album No One’s Gonna Change Our World, before its 1970 Let It Be version. The four new Beatles songs on the Yellow Submarine soundtrack album are counted in 1969, although they featured in the 1968 film.
