Monday 7 August 1972 | Gröna Lund, Stockholm, Sweden
On 7 August 1972, Wings performed at Gröna Lund, the historic amusement park and open-air concert venue in Stockholm, Sweden. It was the 12th night of the Wings Over Europe Tour, which had opened on 9 July 1972 in Ollioules, France. The tour represented Paul McCartney’s first European concerts since 1966 — the year The Beatles played their final tour.
The Wings Over Europe Tour
The Wings Over Europe Tour was a deliberately unconventional undertaking. Rather than playing large arenas, Wings travelled across Europe in a double-decker bus, booking venues as they went and often arriving unannounced. The tour was a statement of intent from McCartney — a desire to return to grassroots touring after years of Beatlemania and the subsequent retreat from live performance.
The tour had opened on 9 July 1972 in the south of France and wound its way through France, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland and Sweden before the Stockholm show. It would continue through Scandinavia and the Low Countries before concluding in Berlin on 24 August 1972.

The Line-Up
Wings at the time of the Stockholm show comprised:
- Paul McCartney — vocals, guitar, bass guitar
- Linda McCartney — vocals, keyboards
- Denny Laine — vocals, guitar, bass guitar
- Henry McCullough — guitar, vocals
- Denny Seiwell — drums
This was the classic early Wings line-up — the five-piece that recorded Wild Life (1971) and Red Rose Speedway (1973). Henry McCullough and Denny Seiwell would both leave the group in 1973, shortly before the recording of Band on the Run.
