Back To The Egg
Back To The Egg was Wings’ sixth and final studio album, released on 8 June 1979. It was recorded at Lympne Castle in Kent and Replica Studios in London, and produced by Paul McCartney and Chris Thomas. The album featured a harder rock sound than its predecessors, partly influenced by the punk and new wave movements of the late 1970s.
The album also featured a one-off supergroup recording called Rockestra, which brought together an ensemble of rock musicians including Pete Townshend, John Bonham, David Gilmour, and Ronnie Lane to record two tracks: ‘Rockestra Theme’ and ‘So Glad To See You Here’. The Rockestra session won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 1980.
‘Arrow Through Me’ was one of the album’s more polished, funk-influenced tracks, built around a prominent horn arrangement. McCartney played all the instruments on the original demo before the full band version was recorded.
