Leaving Nashville
Denny Laine, Jimmy McCulloch, and Geoff Britton flew back to London at 2.45pm. Paul and Linda McCartney, however, asked the Putmans if they and their children could stay on a little longer — but their request was declined.
Rather than fly, the McCartneys rented a car and truck and hit the road, beginning a long drive north-east to New York City. They stopped in Knoxville, Tennessee for their first night. Their final destination was Linda’s family’s summer house in East Hampton, Long Island.
The Nashville Sessions
The Nashville stay had been a productive creative period for Wings. Curly Putman — best known for co-writing Green Green Grass of Home and D-I-V-O-R-C-E — had provided the group with a relaxed, rural base far from the pressures of London. The sessions would feed into Wings’ next studio work, as the group prepared for a major return to live performance.
