The Beatles Live: St John's Hall, Bootle
Friday 2nd March 1962 | Live
On Friday 2nd March 1962, The Beatles returned to St John's Hall, Bootle, almost exactly one year after their previous appearance at the venue.
This marked the fourth of five performances the group gave at St John's Hall between 1961 and 1962.

The Dave Forshaw Bookings
Following The Beatles' breakthrough appearance at Litherland Town Hall on 27th December 1960, local teenage promoter Dave Forshaw booked the group for a run of monthly dates at St John's Hall.
The confirmed St John's Hall appearances were:
- 6th January 1961
- 3rd February 1961
- 3rd March 1961
- 2nf March 1962
- 30th July 1962
The venue stood opposite Bootle Town Hall on Oriel Road and was later demolished.
2nd March 1962 – A Transitional Period
By March 1962:
- The Beatles were under the management of Brian Epstein.
- Pete Best was still the group's drummer (Ringo Starr would join in August 1962).
- Their first EMI recording session with George Martin was still three months away (June 1962).
These Bootle and New Brighton performances represent the final phase of The Beatles' pre-fame Merseyside circuit dominance.

Same Night: Tower Ballroom, New Brighton

Later that evening, The Beatles travelled to the Tower Ballroom, New Brighton, where they appeared at an event billed as the “Mad March Rock Ball.”

Playing two engagements in one night was typical of the group's demanding early-1962 schedule, as they built a reputation across Liverpool and Wirral venues.
Historical Significance
The 2nd March 1962 St John's Hall appearance is notable because it:
- Came almost exactly one year after their March 1961 show at the same venue.
- Occurred during a crucial transitional year before their recording breakthrough.
- Forms part of the final chapter of their local club and ballroom circuit era.
Within five months, The Beatles would sign with EMI's Parlophone label — and by the end of 1962, their lives would be permanently transformed.
