Director Sam Mendes has confirmed the lead actors for his ambitious four-film Beatles project, The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event, due for theatrical release in April 2028.

Mendes will direct all four biopics, each focusing on one member of The Beatles. The films are produced by Pippa Harris, Julie Pastor, and Alexandra Derbyshire in association with Apple Corps for Sony Pictures.

On 31 March 2025, Mendes and the four lead actors appeared at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, reciting lines from the 1967 classic Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band: “It’s wonderful to be here, it’s certainly a thrill. You’re such a lovely audience, we’d like to take you home with us.”

The project has the full blessing of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as the estates of John Lennon and George Harrison. This marks the first time The Beatles and Apple Corps have granted complete life story and music rights for a scripted film.
