Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival, held at the Montreux Convention Centre in Montreux, Switzerland, on Monday 13 July 1992. It was the 30th show of the second All-Starr Band’s 62-date tour of North America and Europe, which ran from June to September 1992.

The show

Fourteen of the 26 songs performed at Montreux were released on Ringo Starr’s second live album, Ringo Starr And His All Starr Band Volume 2: Live From Montreux, released in 1993. The Montreux Jazz Festival was one of the most prestigious stops on the European leg of the tour, and the Convention Centre provided an intimate setting for the all-star ensemble.

Joe Walsh was the guitarist and vocalist of the Eagles, known for ‘Hotel California’ and ‘Life’s Been Good’. Nils Lofgren was a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. Todd Rundgren was the singer-songwriter behind ‘Hello It’s Me’ and ‘I Saw The Light’, and a celebrated record producer. Dave Edmunds was a Welsh rock and roll guitarist and producer. Timothy B Schmit was the bassist of the Eagles. Burton Cummings was the lead singer of The Guess Who (‘American Woman’). Zak Starkey is Ringo’s son, who later became the drummer for The Who.

The Montreux Jazz Festival

The Montreux Jazz Festival is one of the world’s most celebrated music festivals, held annually in Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Founded in 1967 by Claude Nobs, it has hosted performances by virtually every major name in jazz, rock, blues, and pop. The 1992 edition was the 26th festival. The Convention Centre, where Ringo performed, sits directly on the lakefront.
