Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band performed at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on 14 August 2001 — the 14th show of the seventh All-Starr Band’s 28-date North American tour. The tour ran from 26 July to 2 September 2001. Ringo would return to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on 21 October 2014.

The 2001 lineup was one of the most musically diverse in the All-Starr Band’s history, bringing together artists from classic rock, progressive rock, new wave and R&B:

The lineup was notable for the presence of Greg Lake — co-founder of both King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and one of the defining voices of progressive rock. Roger Hodgson, co-founder and lead vocalist of Supertramp, brought a catalogue of some of the most beloved songs of the 1970s. Ian Hunter, frontman of Mott the Hoople, contributed the anthemic ‘All The Young Dudes’ — written for the band by David Bowie in 1972. Sheila E, the percussionist and vocalist best known for her work with Prince, added a funk and R&B dimension to the ensemble. Mark Rivera, a multi-instrumentalist who had been a regular All-Starr Band member since the early tours, provided the glue that held the diverse lineup together.

The 26-song set showcased the breadth of the lineup’s combined catalogue. Greg Lake’s contributions ranged from the ethereal prog-rock of ‘The Court Of The Crimson King’ — the closing track of King Crimson’s landmark 1969 debut album In the Court of the Crimson King — to the acoustic balladry of ‘Lucky Man’ and the bombastic ‘Karn Evil 9’. Roger Hodgson delivered two of Supertramp’s most enduring songs in ‘The Logical Song’ and ‘Take The Long Way Home’. The show closed, as All-Starr Band concerts traditionally do, with the Beatles’ ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ — the song that had opened the Sgt. Pepper’s album and which Ringo had sung as Billy Shears.
