Recording & Mixing: Baby You're A Rich Man – 11 May 1967, Olympic Studios
On Thursday 11 May 1967, The Beatles recorded and mixed Baby You're A Rich Man at Olympic Sound Studios, 117 Church Road, Barnes, London — one of the most celebrated independent recording facilities in Britain during the late 1960s.
The session took place during one of the most creatively fertile periods in The Beatles' career, just days after the completion of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and amid preparations for the Magical Mystery Tour project.

Baby You're A Rich Man – The Song
Baby You're A Rich Man was a composite creation, combining two song fragments — John Lennon's One of the Beautiful People and Paul McCartney's Baby You're A Rich Man — into a single track. This kind of collaborative splicing was characteristic of the Lennon-McCartney partnership at its most experimental.
The song was released as the B-side to All You Need Is Love in July 1967, and later appeared on the Magical Mystery Tour album. Its swirling, psychedelic feel perfectly captured the spirit of the Summer of Love.
Olympic Sound Studios – A Legendary Venue
Olympic Sound Studios at 117 Church Road, Barnes was one of the premier independent recording studios in London during the 1960s and 1970s. The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and many others recorded there alongside The Beatles.
The studio's large live room and high-quality equipment made it a favourite for artists seeking an alternative to EMI's Abbey Road. The Beatles used Olympic on several occasions during the Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine periods.
The Beatles in May 1967
May 1967 was an extraordinary month for The Beatles. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was days away from release (1 June 1967), and the band were simultaneously working on new material and planning the Magical Mystery Tour television film.
George Harrison and Ringo Starr also contributed to the Baby You're A Rich Man session, with the track featuring a distinctive clavioline — an early electronic keyboard instrument — played by John Lennon to create its unusual, slightly Eastern-tinged sound.
Legacy
Baby You're A Rich Man remains one of the more underrated tracks in The Beatles' catalogue — a psychedelic curio that perfectly encapsulates the optimism and experimentation of 1967. The Olympic Studios session of 11 May 1967 produced the finished master in a single day, a testament to the band's efficiency even at the height of their creative ambition.
