Recording: And Your Bird Can Sing

Tuesday 26 April 1966 | Recording, Revolver

This was the second recording session for And Your Bird Can Sing β€” the first attempt had taken place on 20 April 1966. The Beatles returned to EMI Studios, Abbey Road with George Martin producing and Geoff Emerick engineering.

The marathon session ran from 2:30pm to 2:24am the following morning. Eleven rhythm takes were recorded, with take 10 selected as the strongest foundation. The ending was lifted from take six and edited together. Mono mixes were completed on 12 May and stereo mixes on 20 May, with further refinements in early June.

The track was recorded for the Revolver album (1966), one of The Beatles' most critically acclaimed records. George Harrison's guitar work on the track β€” a rapid, interlocking dual-guitar figure played with Paul McCartney β€” is widely regarded as one of the most technically demanding performances on the album.

Location
