An Unexpected San Francisco Arrival

Visit to the Fillmore Auditorium
Later that day, McCartney and Evans visited the legendary Fillmore Auditorium, where Jefferson Airplane were rehearsing. This venue was at the heart of San Francisco’s psychedelic music movement in 1967.
After the rehearsal, they joined band members Marty Balin and Jack Casady at their Oak Street apartment, shared with road manager Bill Thompson.
Previewing Sgt Pepper
During the visit, McCartney played the group an acetate of the forthcoming Beatles album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, offering one of the earliest private listens to what would become one of the most influential albums in rock history.
An informal jam session followed, although McCartney struggled with the band’s right-handed instruments. He was photographed playing a Rickenbacker 360/12, likely belonging to Paul Kantner.
