Paul McCartney’s Lost Scene – A Hard Day’s Night Filming | 21 April 1964

Filming: Paul McCartney's unused scene in A Hard Day's Night

Tuesday 21 April 1964 | Film and video

Filming continued for a second day on Paul McCartney's solo sequence for A Hard Day's Night, a scene that would ultimately be left out of the finished film.

As with the previous day, McCartney filmed without the other Beatles present, making him the only member of the group to shoot a standalone sequence that did not make the final cut.

The location was once again the Jack Billings TV School of Dancing, situated above The Bush pub on Goldhawk Road in Shepherd's Bush, London.

The scene featured McCartney interacting with actress Isla Blair in a rehearsal setting, but director Richard Lester later decided it disrupted the film's pacing and tone, leading to its removal. The footage was subsequently destroyed by Twickenham Film Studios in 1969.
