Paul and Linda McCartney Final RAM Sessions – 9 April 1971
Friday 9 April 1971 | Paul McCartney, Studio
On 9 April 1971, Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney completed the final studio session for the RAM album at Sound Recorders Studio in Los Angeles.
The session brought together final overdubs, experimental recordings, and promotional audio material that would later be distributed to radio stations worldwide.
Final Overdubs: “I Lie Around”
The day began with final overdubs for I Lie Around, a track initially considered a McCartney composition during the RAM sessions.
Paul recorded additional vocal layers and a new guitar part, refining what would later become a key part of Wings' early catalogue.
Although not released on RAM, the track eventually surfaced in June 1973 as the B-side to Wings' single Live And Let Die.
Experimental Recording: “Now Hear This Song Of Mine”
The second focus of the session was the experimental piece Now Hear This Song Of Mine, developed as part of RAM's promotional campaign.
Earlier work on the piece had taken place on 22 February and 1 March 1971, but this session finalised its structure.
Paul and Linda McCartney were recorded responding to questions from engineer Eirik Wangberg in the control room, forming the basis of a series of promotional radio segments.
Brung To Ewe By – Promotional Radio Disc
The material was later compiled into a promotional 12-inch disc titled Brung To Ewe By, distributed to radio stations.
The recordings combined music fragments, studio banter, animal sounds, and experimental edits from the RAM sessions.
Each clip ran between 30 and 60 seconds and included surreal, collage-style segments such as:
- “Get It Together Man”
- “Ram Ram… Boogie”
- “Snatch Of Uncle Albert”
- “Ram With Sounds Of Sheep”
- “Paul Rambling In Scottish Accent”
- “Please Don’t Bring My Banjo Back”
This unusual promotional approach reflected McCartney's increasing interest in studio experimentation and audio collage techniques during the RAM era.
