FedExForum, 191 Beale Street, Memphis, Tennessee — Paul McCartney performed here on 26 May 2013 to 13,562 fans.
The Visit to Graceland
Before the Memphis show, McCartney and his band visited Graceland — Elvis Presley's home and the site of his grave — to pay their respects. McCartney left a guitar plectrum at the grave as a tribute. Drummer Abe Laboriel Jr posted a photograph from the visit on Twitter, captioned simply "#graceland : ) >".
The gesture was characteristic of McCartney's deep connection to the roots of rock and roll. Elvis Presley had been one of the defining influences on the young Beatles — McCartney has spoken many times about the transformative effect of hearing Presley's early Sun Records recordings in the mid-1950s. Memphis, as the home of Sun Studio and the birthplace of rock and roll, held particular significance.
