On 11 March 1970, George Harrison recorded a lengthy interview for the BBC at Studio H25, Aeolian Hall, London, which would form the basis of the radio special The Beatles Today. The interview was conducted by Johnny Moran for the programme Scene And Heard, but proved so extensive that the BBC created a dedicated Beatles programme from the material.
The Interview
Harrison discussed a wide range of topics including his early songwriting (beginning with āDonāt Bother Meā for With The Beatles), the difficulties of having his songs considered alongside the LennonāMcCartney partnership, and artists associated with Apple Records including Jackie Lomax, Billy Preston, and Doris Troy.
He also spoke about his musical influences ā Bob Dylan, The Band, and Indian classical musicians ā and the forthcoming Let It Be film and album.
On the future of The Beatles, Harrison said:
āI certainly donāt want to see the end of The Beatles. And I know Iāll do anything⦠Whatever Paul, John, Ringo would like to do, Iāll do it. As long as we can all be free to be individuals at the same time.ā

The Beatles Today was first broadcast on BBC Radio 1 on 30 March 1970, 4:31pmā5:15pm. Two excerpts were also broadcast in the 15 March 1970 edition of Scene And Heard. The programme remains one of the most revealing contemporary interviews with Harrison during the final phase of The Beatlesā career.
