Day 6: Filming Help! in the Bahamas - 28th February 1965 | Cabbage Beach Paradise Island

Sunday 28th February 1965 | Day 6 of Filming

On Sunday 28th February 1965, The Beatles filmed scenes for their second feature film, Help!, on Cabbage Beach, the two-mile stretch of sand on the northern side of Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

This marked the sixth day of filming in the Caribbean schedule, which had begun on 23rd February 1965.

Cabbage Beach – A Key Bahamas Location

Cabbage Beach became one of the most recognisable backdrops in Help!, providing:

  • Expansive shoreline vistas
  • Bright Technicolor contrast to A Hard Day's Night
  • Open space for chase and action sequences

The Paradise Island coastline featured prominently throughout the Bahamas shoot, particularly in scenes tied to the film's sacrificial cult storyline centred around Ringo Starr's character.

Production Timeline

By 28th February 1965:

  • The 8:30am–5:30pm filming schedule was firmly established.
  • Multiple beach and road sequences had already been completed.
  • The production was midway through its two-week Bahamas block.

The Beatles remained in the Bahamas until Wednesday 10th March 1965, departing Nassau the day after filming concluded.

Historical Context

The Bahamas filming phase (23rd February–9th March 1965):

  • Marked The Beatles' first feature shot in colour.
  • Reinforced their global, jet-set image at the height of Beatlemania.
  • Established the adventurous, comic tone that distinguished Help! from its predecessor.

The 28th February beach shoot represents one of the central location days in this visually iconic chapter of Beatles film history.
