Friday 5th March 1965 | Day 11 of Filming
On Friday 5th March 1965, The Beatles returned to New Providence Island after three days of filming on Paradise Island and Rose Island for their second feature film, Help!.
The Bahamas production block had begun on 23rd February 1965 and was entering its final stretch.
Searching for Ringo – Island Sequences
Among the material filmed on 5th March were scenes in which:
- John Lennon,
- Paul McCartney, and
- George Harrison
search the island calling out for Ringo Starr.
These sequences formed part of the film's central chase narrative, as the three Beatles attempt to locate Ringo, who is being pursued by a cult intent on retrieving a sacrificial ring.
The day involved filming at multiple Nassau-area locations, continuing the 8:30am–5:30pm schedule maintained throughout the Caribbean shoot.
Production Context
By 5th March 1965:
- Principal beach sequences on Paradise Island and Rose Island had largely been completed.
- The production was consolidating remaining exterior scenes on New Providence Island.
- Only a few days of Bahamas filming remained before the band's departure on 10th March.
- The New Providence material added variety to the film's outdoor sequences, balancing coastal scenery with road and urban settings around Nassau.
Historical Significance
5th March represents:
- The transition back to New Providence Island after several days on neighbouring islands.
- The filming of key narrative moments involving the three Beatles searching for Ringo.
- One of the final action-heavy days within the Bahamas schedule.
The resulting footage contributed to some of the most kinetic and recognisable sequences in Help!'s tropical storyline.
