On 5th December 1967, London saw one of the most colourful moments in Beatles history: the launch party for the Apple Boutique at 94 Baker Street. While the boutique itself would only last a short time, this event perfectly captured the playful, psychedelic energy of John Lennon, George Harrison, and the Apple Corps team.
John and George Take Centre Stage
With Paul McCartney enjoying a holiday in Scotland and Ringo Starr filming Candy in Italy, it was John and George who attended the launch, accompanied by their partners. The two Beatles mingled with celebrities and fashion insiders, giving fans a rare glimpse of their style and personalities outside the studio.
The Quirky Details That Make Beatles History Fun
True to John Lennon’s whimsical spirit, the launch invitations read:
“Come at 7.46. Fashion Show at 8.16.”
And in classic Apple style, the boutique had no alcohol license, so the only drink served was… apple juice!
BBC reporter Brian Cullingford also interviewed John, George, and Cilla Black during the party, with the segment airing later on Late Night Extra.
